Court rejects anticipatory bail plea

Imphal, August 26 2022:
The Session Judge Imphal West has rejected the fresh anti-cipatory bail application filed by Yumnam Surjitkumar, managing director cum founder of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences ( SIMS) Porompat, who has been accused of raping a student of the institute on August 14 last.
The second anticipatory bail application was filed by Yumnam Surjitkumar (42), s/o Y Saratchandra Mangang of Khurai Kongkham Leikai for granting pre-arrest bail along with interim bail.
The counsel of the petitioner submitted that the accused had an affair with the alleged victim and they eloped willingly.
On the other hand, the APP appearing for the State opposed the bail application.
A similar application was filed earlier by the accused but the same application was withdrawn on August 24 after submission of the bail report by the investigating agency.
The Court observed that the second bail application filed today was signed on August 23 by the accused and the declaration was also verified on the same day.
The subsequent facts of withdrawal of the first bail application and reasons for filing the second bail application are not disclosed in the present application.
The Court later dismissed the anticipatory bail application.
