Protests against liquor policy continue

Imphal, February 14 2023:
Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) continued to stage protests across the state, denouncing the government's decision to legalise alcohol.
Nupi Samaj, CADA and Nongdam Apunba Meira Paibi jointly staged a sit-in protest at Nongdam Bazar, Imphal East District on Tuesday.
Similar sit-ins were also staged by Nupi Samaj and CADA respectively with Nongpok Heirok Women's Society at Nongpok Heirok Maning Leikai Keithel; and Lamlai Chalou Apunba Meira Paibi Lamlai Bazar at Lamlai Bazar.
In Thoubal district, Nupi Samaj, CADA, Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (THOUBAL IMA) and Tentha Thongkhong Bazar Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest at Tentha Thongkhong Bazar on Tuesday.
During the sit-ins, the protestors shouted and held placards inscribed with the slogans, "How will legalisation curb alcohol abuse when prohibition failed?", "Will legalisation prevent crimes?", "Is liquor legalisation justified amidst war on drugs? Isn't drug abuse and alcohol abuse same, regardless of legalisation or not?", "Does the government have no other means of earning revenue other than legalising alcohol?", "Is revenue more important than human life?", "What is good liquor? Will legalisation of liquor guaranteed not to harm human body?", "Withdraw legalisation decision and save the future of Manipur", "Save Manipur from alcoholism", "No to liquor legalisation", etc., a release by CADA Information & Publicity secretary L Brojen Angomcha informed.
