Churachandpur police arrests man for looting money

Churachandpur police arrested a man who not only demanded ransom from a truck driver but also looted Rs 32,000 from him.
The police started investigating the case after the truck driver identified as K Lalmani Singh (44), s/o Tilok Singh of Zou Veng, Churachandpur reported how he was looted and abandoned in a secluded place.
The alleged looter has been identified as Seiminlal Haokip (34), son of Seimang Haokip of Laijang village.
The truck driver claimed that he was looted while heading for Imphal from Churachandpur.
The driver was stopped by a man at Boljol village who initially demanded Rs 5000 as tax.
Reportedly, the driver paid the amount out of fear but the 'looter' snatched his wallet containing Rs 32,000 and fled from the area in an unregistered black motorcycle.
Immediately, the driver followed the motorcycle heading towards the town in his truck.
He located the motorbike parked in front of a hotel at Tuibong and confronted the 'looter,' while the unidentified man asked him (the driver) to ride along with him on the pretext of getting him a yearly tax slip.
The looter fled from the scene again, following which Lalmani Singh filed a report to the Churachandpur police narrating his ordeal.
After a brief investigation, the police established the man in question as Seiminlal Haokip (34), son of Seimang Haokip of Laijang village.
The police couldn't find him in the early hour raid today as the family told the police that Seiminlal Haokip hadn't been returning home since the past 2-3 days.
The police team continued their enquiries using multiple sources and found him at Pangzawl Village at around 3.30 pm.
The unregistered black motorcycle he used to commit the crime and Rs 22,000 in cash were recovered from his possession.
