Promotion as per rules, says Education minister

Education minister Th Basanta Kumar has said that promotion of employees working in Education Department particularly the teachers will be done as per the existing rules and there will be no favouritism in the promotion process.
Minister Basanta stated this at the formal launch function of Korean language course in government and government-aided colleges of the state at Manipur College on Wednesday.
Attending as chief guest of the launch function, Th Basanta Kumar said that employees of education department will be given all their entitled rights including promotion when their time arrives and as per the rules.
There will be no problem for promotion in education department for service elevation procedures pertaining to the post of principal, vice principal and professor will be initiated before their retirement under existing rules, he said and maintained that the department will not succumb to any pressure in all activities including promotion.
According to Th Basanta Kumar, there had been no recruitment in education department for the past 10 years but the present government is working hard to solve the problem of shortage of teachers.
As part of addressing the issue of manpower shortage, the government is preparing to recruit teachers including graduate teachers, he added.
Terming the function as a historic one, the education minister said that learning foreign language is beneficial in every field and learning Korean language will come handy in securing job apart from understanding the history, culture and tradition of Korean.
He also stressed on the need for prompting indigenous language and culture.
He further said that the pace of development is very fast in the state and there will be a significant change in the next five years.
While informing the gathering that Rs 10 crore has been approved for 'College Fagathansi' mission, the education minister said that the fund will be utilised for infrastructural development in five government colleges.
