Health minister appeals to suspend strike

Imphal, February 14 2023:
Even as government doctors have launched cease work strike from Tuesday, health and family welfare minister Dr S Ranjan has appealed to the doctors to suspend their agitation.
Making the appeal through media persons at his office chamber on Tuesday, minister Ranjan said that doctors are performing their duties for 24 hours daily and their profession is very important.
Demands raised by doctors had already been discussed in the state assembly and government needs to take time in fulfilling the demands as a minute discussion is necessary, he said and maintained that government is not against the demands raised by the doctors.
Regarding the strike, the health minister said that there is no report of affecting OPDs at health institutions in the state except for few institutidns.
He further said that there are 232 vacancies for promoting doctors from Grade-Ill to Grade IV but the government is looking seriously into eligible doctors to be promoted and the process would take time.
Regarding increment of salaries for doctors, Dr S Ranjan said that consultations are on with DP and finance departments to hike salaries for doctors.
