Imphal, January 10 2014 :
The lack of recognition and assistance from the Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur to Tribal Culture Research Center, Noney in Tamenglong district is unfortunate and unacceptable despite the fact that center has been showcasing traditional folk song, dance and drama of Zeliangrong community in different parts of the country since its inception on February 2, 2006 and brought laurels not only for the Zeliangrong community but for the State as well, rued Phaomei Jonson, Managing Director of Tribal Research Center, Noney.
In a chat with Hueiyen Lanpao, Jonson said there are 30 artistes in the center which has been running in a rented place at RK Hotel, Noney due to absence of its office complex and informed that various plays staged by the cultural group are purely based on traditional folklores of Zeliangrong community.
He informed that the center bagged second prize in the All India Folk Dance Competition, 2013 held at Gurgaon; Best Jury Award in the Dance Drama Competition held from November 5-10; Second and Third prize in the All India Multi-lingual Short Play Theatre Seminar, Dance and Drama Festival held at Allahabad, UP from November 14-23 .
So far, the State Government has not extended any kinds of help to the center.
The expenditure required for participation in various cultural shows and competitions are borne by the artistes themselves with the sole mission that the center must strive hard to showcase the rich traditional and culture of Zeliangrong over the world regardless of any problem faced, he maintained.
