The Naga political talks which bear a direct threat to the Kukis' political aspiration is a constant pain in the neck, remarked Peter H Mate, President of Kuki Students' Organisation (General Headquarters) .
Peter Mate was delivering the presidential message of the inaugural function of the KSO General Assembly and Conference, 2014 at M Songgel village in Churachandpur district today with the theme 'Changing Edifice' .
He said that his presidency considers the threat posed by the Naga political talks to the aspiration of the Kukis seriously while calling upon the people to safeguard their lands from external aggression.
The KSO was redefined in the early 90s when the ethnic clash broke out between the Kukis and the Nagas in the hill areas of the State.
The students' body along with the Kuki Inpi became the frontal organisations of the Kukis and dedicated to protect and safeguard the interests of the people against the Nagas aggression, Peter Mate said.
Pointing out that the KSO has become a major organisation, the president stressed on the need to adopt better coordination between the KSO general headquarters and its branches spread across many States and Cities.
Saying that the roles and activities of KSO should not only confine to education sphere, Peter further added that the prevailing political situation in Kuki inhabited areas compelled the KSO to venture in the geo-political affairs of the region.
He also said that the KSO has held consultations with various Kuki militant groups under the KNO and UPF discussing possibilities wherein the KSO could be of help.
The KSO maintains that the two umbrella groups should aside all differences and speak in common voice to the Govt.The general conference of the students' body will be held tomorrow.
The first session of the General Assembly today was marked by unfurling of the students' organisation flag, observance of one-minute silence as a mark of respect to departed KSO members and leaders, and unveiling of a commemorative stone.
In the second session, a discussion on Constitution review and amendments was held while the Haipi Assembly resolutions of the KSO was reviewed and deliberated.
Around 87 delegates of the KSO drawn from 25 branches including that of Myanmar attended the general assembly cum conference.
