The Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Imphal has organised its 21st annual function show to commemorate the 150th birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda today at the Auditorium of JN Manipuri Dance Academy, Imphal.
The function was attended by Dy CM Gaikhangam and Padmashree Thongram Haridas Singh, chairman of SVK, Imphal as the chief guest and president respectively.
MLA Kh Joykishan; P Bharat, retired Commissioner; Rose Mangshi Haokip, retired lecturer; Dr K Sobita Devi, Director (Art and Culture); L Upendro Sharma, Director JNMDA and Laaljan Begum, retired College Principal were the guests of honour.
Offering floral tribute to the portrait of Swami Vevekananda, release of souvenir and presentation of certificates to participants of a dance show marked
the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Gaikhangam said that the observance of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary is relevant in today's world as he was a philosopher, thinker, spiritual reformer, social reformer and a saint who worked for the overall betterment of mankind.
He said that Swamiji and his contribution for the welfare of mankind would be etched in the hearts of many in times to come.
The Dy CM also conveyed his wish to change the Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre into Manipur Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre.
