Rich tributes paid to RK Bidur, Irom Maipak

Rich tributes were paid to national film award for best critic Swarna Kamal awardee late RK Bidur and national film award for best feature film cinematography Irom Maipak as part of the ongoing Festival of Cinemas of Manipur at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) auditorium, Palace Compound, here on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, renowned filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma hailed the two personalities as rare gems of Manipuri cinema.
He said that the demise of the two, who dedicated their lives to develop and promote Manipuri cinema, is a great loss for the Manipuri film industry.
Despite having a small market with a language confined mostly to the state, Manipuri film industry has been contributing in the journey for over five decades.
It is a unique journey on its own and one of its kind in the entire world.
Hindi and English films often pose threat to the survival of Manipuri films on multiple occasions but the film industry always prevails as a result of the efforts of the art lovers of the small state, he said.
The veteran filmmaker also hailed MSFDS for organising a memorial service for the two rare gems of Manipuri cinema.
Filmmaker Ningthouja Lancha and film actor and psychologist Dr Mayengbam Akshaykumar also attended the event as president and guest of honour respectively.
Filmmaker Narendra Ningomba, Makhonmani Mongsaba and several others spoke on the lives and works of RK Bidur and Irom Maipak.
