Imphal, November 13 2014:
Though Jessami Primary Health Center in Ukhrul district was set up to ensure medical needs of people of the village, failure of the doctor who is deputed to the health centre to attend in time of medical needs has rendered the health centre useless.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Ayete, chairman of Jessami village said that the government deputed Dr Munik Seiza to the health center to look after medical needs of people of the village.
However, absence of the doctor in the health center in most of the times has led the villagers to reel under intense difficulties whenever needs of medical attention arise.
''Munik Seiza is rarely seen in the health center.
His persistent absence in the center has compelled the villagers to concede that the primary health center no more exists,'' he lamented.
The village chairman pointed out that the case of BP stroke in Jessami village is high others being cough and fever while contending that whenever sick persons are admitted to the health center for immediate medical attention, the concerned doctor was found absent on many occasions.
''Knowing the apparent failure of the doctor to present in the health center in most of the times, sick people of the village are now admitted to Nagaland Hospital, Ukhrul District Hospital and health centers based in Imphal which is time consuming and huge expense of money,'' he rued.
Stating that a sum of minimum Rs 7000 is charged by passenger transporters for carrying sick person from Jessami to Imphal, the chairman maintained that Jessami village bordering Nagaland is lagging behind in every fields mainly health sector.
''Doctors are there for saving lives of people.
But in Jessami village, the responsibility of a doctor is yet to be ascertained'', he added.
Saying that place of posting should not be a matter of concern for doctors, the chairman urged the government to depute a dutiful and competent doctor at Jessami Primary Health Center at the earliest, considering intense difficulties being faced by people of the village at the time of seeking medical attention.
