Lt Gen Konsam Himalay visits SSI

Lieutenant General Konsam Himalay Singh, GOC 16 Corps, visited Sainik School, Imphal today and addressed the cadets.
General K Himalay Singh, born in Charangpat village of district Thoubal is the first Army officer from not only Manipur, but entire NE Region.
While addressing the cadets, the General stressed the importance of character development along with robust mental and physical development.
He laid stress on conquering one's own fears in life with perseverance and hard work.
Giving his own example, he said that in his earlier days, he was afraid of heights and to conquer this fear, he joined mountaineering expeditions in army, which lead to him overcoming his fears as well as climbing many peaks successfully including Kedarnath Dome in 1980 and Kanchenjunga in 1987 .

Keeping the address more interactive, he took up questions from the cadets and some very interesting facets of his life surfaced.
On being asked by one cadet about how to achieve goals in life, General revealed that when he was a child, in just class 6th, he wrote in his personal diary that one day he will be a Brigadier in Army (interestingly, during that time the senior most officer from Manipur was a Lt Col and he worked hard to pursue his goal.
He said if a person like him from such a humble place can rise to this level, then every one of the cadets present can do too.
Before he closed his address, a cadet made a remark that "it was really a surreal experience to get such a senior officer from our own land amongst us".
The General thanked the principal, staff and cadets of Sainik School, Imphal and wished them good luck for future endeavours.
