Fake Encounter: HC orders Rs 5 lakh compensation to victim family

Imphal, November 13 2014:
The High Court of Manipur today ordered the government of Manipur to give compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the wife of a deceased killed in a fake encounter.
A division bench of Chief Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra and Justice Koteshwor ruled that the alleged police encounter where Nongmaithem Micheal of Keishampat Keisham Leikai was killed on November 4, 2008 as "Fake" .
The case was filed by Neena Ningombam, wife of late Nongmaithem Micheal in the High Court of Manipur that her husband was killed in an alleged fake encounter by the Manipur Police Commandos.
Principal Secretary Home, DGP and Imphal West SP were the respondents representing the state of Manipur.
The 10- page judgment stated that the court could not find any evidence in support of the police encounter, hence the government should give Rs 5 lakh to the victim's wife.
Petitioner Ningombam Neena said she will also file another case against those police personnel in the court.
She also appealed the people of Manipur to knock the door of the court to get justice.
