AR's go green fortnight culminates

'GO GREEN FORTNIGHT,' an initiative by HQ IGAR (South), culminated today at Mantripukhri Environmental Park and Training Area (MEPTA) .
The aim of 'GO GREEN FORTNIGHT' was to provide a forum to all social organization, students, civil administration to work out a common and viable way towards the preservation and regenerating the Flora and Fauna in the state to reclaim the natural setting of yester years and preserve ecological balance in Manipur, according to a press release of PRO IGAR (S) .
The endeavour during the 'GO GREEN FORTNIGHT' from July 1 to 15 was to educate the people and create awareness amongst the student community about the after care of the planted trees so that they survive.
Maj Gen UK Gurung, IGAR (South) graced the occasion as Chief Guest and culminated the fortnight observation by planting saplings.
Speaking on the occasion, he expressed deep concern over the deforestation activities which have led the environment, flora and fauna in the Manipur on the verge of extinction and urged everyone to work unitedly and collectively towards the conservation of the environment and initiate such activities as would be able to compensate for decaying of environment and ecology in Manipur in the recent past.
He further stated that more than 50000 saplings including ornamental trees, shady trees, fruit bearing and medicinal varieties have been planted during this 'GO GREEN DRIVE' by Assam Rifles resulting a fresh start by Assam Rifles again for its determination for being the true 'Friends of Manipur', the release added.
