AMWJU condemns gun attack on woman journalist

Imphal, July 16 2012:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors of local dailes published in Imphal have strongly condemned the gun attack on Tongam Rina, associate editor of Arunachal Times, the first English daily of Arunachal Pradesh, in front of her office.
In a joint meeting, AMWJU and the editors termed the attack on Rina as act of cowardice and a threat to the freedom of press.
The meeting observed that shooting a responsible journalist in front of her office is an example of bad law and order and urged the Arunachal government to take up precautionary measures to avoid such incidents in future.
Later, the meeting prayed for speedy recovery of the journalist.
Mention may be made that Tongam Rina, who is the associate editor of Arunachal Times, the first and only English daily in Arunachal Pradesh owned by former CM Gegong Apang.
