Imphal, July 16 2012:
Two woman vendors were injured following a melee that sparked from a claim for a market shed today at Emoinu (Luxmi) Ima Keithel at around 10am.The incident occurred when around 25 women, mostly mosquito net sellers, came and attempted to occupy Market shed no 7 and 8.They had with them an authorisation order issued by the IMC.
They were also accompanied by Revenue officer, police and EO of IMC.
However, the vendors who had occupied the sheds refused to vacate their place which resulted in a scuffle between the two groups.
Additional police forces had to be called in to quell the scuffle.
Meanwhile, secretary of Emoinu Luxmi Ima Keithel, K Pakpi told the media that there are no more vacant sheds in the market as all the sheds have been allocated to genuine vendors.
She said the attempt to vacate the earlier occupants was only seen as an attempt by the IMC of their sinister action by forcing to replace the vendors with the new ones.
On the other hand, the other party said they were the genuine occupants who are at the receiving end of IMC's foul play.
They also claimed that they are still paying tax to the IMC as genuine vendors.
