Poll preparations underway in full swing: Senapati DC

With reference to the issuance of notification on February 4 for the second phase of election to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, District Election Officer (DEO)/DC Senapati Mahesh Chaudhari informed that the filing of nomination is opened and the last date is on February 11.So far, no candidate from the district has filed nominations although 11 had taken nomination forms, the DEO said.
Speaking to media persons at Senapati DC office on Saturday, Mahesh Chaudhari maintained that preparation is on in full swing to ensure free and fair election in the district.
He informed that the scrutiny of nominations for the second phase will be done on February 14 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is on February 16.The nomination process for Mao AC and Tadubi AC is being done at room-2 while for Karong AC room 1 on the first floor block A Senapati mini secretariat reserved, he added.
Highlighting that regular interaction with different political parties with regard to ensuing state assembly elections were conducted and Covid guidelines reviewed periodically, he informed that no complaint has been received related to violation of election code of conduct or on Covid norm in the district till now.
The on-going activities like training for political parties, applying permission online, sensitization of expenditure, online single window clearance facility from ECI Suvidha website for different permission like venue, rally and others are also underway, said Mahesh Chaudhari.
He informed that public rally is not permitted till February 11 as per the ECI direction.
In order to maintain the Covid safety protocols during the nomination process, public vehicles are restricted inside the Senapati mini secretariat complex from 10.30 am to 3.30pm till nomination is over.
The DEO continued that will be three model polling stations in the district having basic facilities with decoration for the voters to have pleasing experience in voting.
He also informed that volunteers who are under 18 years of age have been identified to help the elderly persons, PwDs and whoever in need on the polling day.
While expressing elation over the increasing rate of Cavid vaccination in the district, he also appealed to the left-out citizens to get inoculated at the earliest possible.
A polling station would be set up at mini secretariat Senapati in few days for the public so as to get familiar with the voting procedure, the DEO added.
A district police officer pointed out that CRPF and CISF personnel have already been deployed in the district and many more"are arriving soon to ensure free and fair conduct of election.
The officer disclosed that during raiding and frisking around 25 people were arrested and booked for selling liquor.
All police stations in the district are on alert, he affirmed.
Nodal officer for postal ballot S Lunguiba Thangal highlighted about the training for postal ballot electors, how to get form, certificate duty form from RO, Election duty certificate and others.
He continued that Covid-19 second dose vaccination is mandatory for polling officers, political agents, polling agents and BLOs.
