Court convicts two on murder case

Imphal, July 15 2013:
Two persons, who have been accused of involvement in the death of S Penmi who was abducted on July31, 2004 and found murdered after torturing him at Vachon Tharam of Halang village, were convicted under section 304 Part II read with section 34 IPC, by the Court of M Manojkumar, Additional Session Judge Manipur East today.
The two persons who have been declared guilty by the court are Thangmeiso Horam (23), s/o HR Luingam of Halang Village, Ukhrul district and HR Mashungmi (21), s/o Vareiyo Horam of Halang Village, Ukhrul district.
Somthar Keidam, the elder brother of late S Penmi had filed a complaint in the court to take up action against the two accused contending that on July 31, 2004 at around 2:30 pm, S Penmi (30), who was a mentally unsound had been taken to Vachom Tharam of Halang village by Thangmeiso Horam and HR Mashungmi and physically assaulted him there and as a result S Penmi succumbed to the injuries.
After police investigated into the case, the two accused persons were arrested and charge-sheet was framed against them under IPC section 34 and 302 in the court of the Additional Session Judge.
While going through the testimonies given by witnesses, it came to light that the deceased had been indeed chased by the two accused persons and when eyewitnesses enquired why Penmi was being chased, the accused persons told that them he had beaten up some women.
The two accused persons beat up Penmi severely with a GI pipe and it led to his death.
The sentence hearing of the case will be done on July 22 .
