Public Curfew total in Ukhrul; TOFs submit memo CS

Life came to a standstill in Ukhrul town on day one of the 'indefinite public curfew' imposed jointly by apex Tangkhul social organizations backed by all its affiliated zonal bodies demanding transfer of Deputy Commissioner.
On Monday, the streets in Ukhrul town wore a deserted look as all Government offices, business establishments, educational institutions remained closed down and vehicles stayed off the roads.
The Tangkhul social organizations jointly deputed representatives to Imphal early this morning, and a memorandum was submitted to the state Chief Secretary D.S.Poonia placing 11-point allegations against the DC at around noon.
Till late in the evening, the State Government remained unperturbed over the demand of the Tangkhul bodies.
However, the agitating groups are keeping their finger crossed and remaining optimistic of a favourable response from the higher authorities.
No incidence of violence has been reported on the day one of the 'public curfew'.
Today, there was no heavy security drill unlike Sunday.
In other sub-divisional areas, however, the impact of the 'public curfew' was not felt much.
In Kamjong, the mundane activities went as usual without any interference in educational institution and business establishments.
Leaders of the Tangkhul social organizations, till late this evening, showed their steadfast stance not to roll back the indefinite curfew call.
An insider source informed that Ukhrul DC R.Sudhan has also hinted feeler to the higher authorities on getting him transfer out of the district.
However, the Okram Ibobi Singh Government has been reluctant as his presence is indispensable in certain state affairs pending in the district.
In the memo submitted today, the Tangkhul bodies leveled allegations against the DC like 'irregular attendance in/ bunking office,' 'total failure in public relationship', 'misappropriation of development funds', 'abetment to liquor smuggling', 'betrayal of Kongkan victims killed by UNLF', 'failure of educational sector', 'non-functional of government departments (Minor Irrigation, Census and Statistic, PWD', 'conversion of mini secretariat into a pleasure house', 'over spending official days at DC camp office in Imphal', among others.
