Kakching, December 13 2021:
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) president Hjjam Priyokumar has said that Manipur is plagued with scores of issues and none could be solved till date.
The CADA president stated this during the 82nd Nupi Lai Ningsing Numit Thouram organised by Ningol Club Heirok at Heirok Part-II Devi Mandop on Sunday.
Attending as the chief guest, Priyokumar said that the role played by women for the society at different phases from Anglo-Manipuri War till date is enormous and a third Nupi Lai particularly in tackling drug menace is still continuing.
In view of the present drug trafficking/business scenario in the state, it is suspected that a specific strategy is being adopted to demoralise women and stop them from joining the fight against drugs and other issues, he added.
According to Priyokumar, Manipur currently holds second position in drug usage and third in tobacco consumption among states of the country and it is very unfortunate that Manipur fare well only in drug use and torture of women and children.
In view of this scenario, there is fear of Manipur being uprooted in near future, he observed and stressed the need for a collective effort to end drug usage in the state beginning from family level.
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) advisor Khangembam Anandi also spoke at the event and stressed the need for reviving patriotism and courage that Manipuri women had in the past.
She also said that women of the state are currently waging the third Nupi Lai particularly in the fight against drugs and AFSPA.
Ningol Club president Khundongbam Sophiya, Integrated Rural Development Service Organization (IRDSO) secretary Nonibla Narengbam and Dorendro Memorial English School vice-principal Laishram Ratan also attended the event while women activist Anamika Heirangkhongjam and Reena Thangjam spoke as resource persons.
