Nurse struggling for life in ICU after knife attack

A staff nurse of Rajmedicity, Imphal, who was critically injured in a knife attack on Sunday night, is now fighting for her life in the ICU of the private hospital.
The victim, Loitongbam Priyarani (25) of Nambol Lairenjam Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, sustained split throat injury after she was reportedly attacked by her boyfriend with a sharp knife at Utlou Lamkhai at about 7:30 pm.
She was rushed to Rajmedicity by two locals with heavy bleeding.
Priyarani was immediately operated by a team of nine doctors and saved her life.
The operation took four hours.
As per the ICU doctors, her recovery rate is remarkable, said managing director of the hospital, Haobijam Rajen Singh.
Meanwhile, angry locals numbering about 500 from Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai in Imphal East attacked and damaged the house of the accused Sagolsem Rocky (28) at about 11:30 am.
A public meeting later decided to banish accused Rocky and his family from the locality for life.
The accused surrendered to Heingang Police Station at about 11 pm on Sunday.
Earlier, a team of Nambol Police raided his house at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai at about 10 pm, but he was found hiding somewhere, police sources said.
The knife used in the attack has been recovered by the police, they said, adding Sagolsem Rocky is now being interrogated in connection with the incident.
A press meet was held at Rajmedicity over the life attempt on Priyarani.
The victim's family, staff of the hospital and its managing director condemned the brutal incident and sought justice for the victim.
The family said Priyarani and Rocky had a love affair for some years, but both quit two years ago.
