Thousands hail 'Indo-Naga Peace Accord'

Thousands of supporters on Monday took out a silent Peace March along the town's thoroughfare and later converged at the TNL Ground to commemorate and celebrate the recent Peace Accord signed between the NSCN (IM) and Government of India (GoI) on August 3 last in New Delhi.
The supporters observed a Thanksgiving Day.
As a part of the day's observance, thousands of supporters gathered at points of the town at 11 am and marched through the town's main road.
The supporters including uniform-clad students holding the Naga National Flag and banner reading "Long Live PM Modiji, Long Live RN Raviji, Long Live Yaruiwo Isak Chishi Swu, Long Live Ato Kilonser Th Muivah" proceeded from two ends of the town Mission Ground and Dungrei Junction and finally converged at TNL Ground for the Thanksgiving Day program.

Addressing the public gathering, TNL president V Weapon Zimik lauded the collective initiative of both the Naga national leaders Chairman Isak Chishi Swu and General Secretary Th Muivah and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Interlocutor RN Ravi on the Indian Government side which brought to fruition signing of the recent epoch marking Peace Accord.
He also thanked the Almighty for guiding both the leaders of GoI and NSCN (IM) with His infinite wisdom through the years.
TSL President SC Ringluiwon and TKS President Joel Angkang also lauded the signing of the peace pact, while thanking the public of the district for their support for the process.
Various Tangkhul organizations and village headmen and public attended the gathering.
Meanwhile, during the function all shops and commercial establishments remained closed while all vehicles kept off the road.
Punctuated by special numbers from PBC and UBC choir teams and entertainment items from Wung Hira, Voice of Symphony etc, the Thanksgiving program culminated with releasing a banner trapped with dozens of balloons signifying gratitude, celebration and commemoration by Tangkhul leaders led by TNL president Zimik, even as the gathered public shouted in unison the slogans, "Thank God, thank Naga leaders and Thank Indian leaders" .
Later, in the evening from 7pm onward, power was put off and all households across the district lit up candles at their respective yards for 30 minutes.
Ukhrul ADC members led by Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung also attended the programme.
