Jiribam, August 10 2015:
Even though sixteen days have elapsed since the Barak bridge broke down till today, more than 300 goods laden trucks are still stranded on either side of the bridge.
The bridge is likely to be opened on August 12 at the earliest.
At present about 350 trucks and other vehicles travelling towards Imphal are stranded at Leingangpokpi and Barak area while 25 other trucks moving towards Jiribam are also stranded on the other side of the bridge.
According to sources, the bridge will face a similar breakdown in the future if the authorities concerned and truck/passenger vehicles continue to ignore the load capacity of the bridge.
It has been informed that the bridge can only bear a load of 24 tonnes.
