Imphal, August 10 2015:
Joint Students' Co-Ordination Committee, an apex body of AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK has appealed to all to observe the August 13 (Patriots Day) 2015 to fondly remember all those brave martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the Manipuri nation.
Media Co-Coordinator of JSCC in a press statement said that today Manipuri people need to understand the famous saying of former American President John F Kennedy'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country' .
Giving the priority on 'Country First', every citizens of any nation have been keeping up their heads high while trying to make and develop their own nations to live in peace and unity, said the statement.
Manipuris need to understand the fact that Manipuri civilization was once ahead of the American civilization, which the world presumes to be the most powerful country at present, added the statement.
"Manipur was an independent nation for more than 2000 years while our forefathers faced every threat to feel their future generations proud of them.
Now is the time to know and understand why our forefathers sacrificed their lives in the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War for today's generation," said the statement.
August 13 has been observed as Patriots Day in Manipur when every walk of life including clubs, organisations, students and teachers of every educational institute pay floral tributes to them.
But today, most of the students have stopped observing the sacred day after Manipur Govt declared August 13 as a State Holiday, which in return has downcast the feeling of nationalism in today's generation, said the statement.
JSCC also alleged that the word nationalism has already become 'anti-thesis' to the politicians of the State while it has become an allergic term to the bureaucrats.
As a step to build up the feeling of nationalism, today is the right time to widely observe the Patriots Day, added the statement.
JSCC further appealed to all schools, colleges, university, clubs, organisations, meira paibis and all walks of life to observe the August 13 and pay floral tribute to the forefathers who had sacrificed for the Manipuri nation.
