CM Biren, others file nominations

Imphal, February 05 2022:
Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh filed his nomination for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heingang Assembly Constituency (AC) as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate on, Saturday.
The CM was accompanied by BJP state president A Sharda Devi.
Biren submitted his nomination papers at the office of the Returning Officer (RO) Elangbam Amuthoi Khanganba.
Taking to his Twitter handle, CM Biren Singh said, "It gives me immense pleasure to file the nomination as the BJP candidate from Heingang AC at the office of Returning Officer today.
I was joined by Smt.�AShardaDeviji, [email protected] wishes to all BJP candidates filing nominations for the upcoming election," Singh added.
Four other candidate also formally joined the fray on the fifth day of the filing of nominations in Imphal East district.
They included Khurai AC MLA Leishangthem Susindro Singh of BJP, ex-MLA Kshetrimayum Biren Singh (Lamlai) AC of Janata Dal (United), Wahengbam Rojit alias Bullet (Kshetrigao) of JD-U and Keisham Ningthemjao (Andro) of Indian National Congress.
Filing of nominations for the first phase of the Assembly elections to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly began on February 1.Nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9.The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be February 11.The first phase election in 38 assembly constituencies will be held on February 27 while the remaining 22 seats will go the polls in the second phase on March 3.The counting of votes will be on March 10.In Bishnupur district, MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh of BJP filed his nomination to contest in Thanga AC while INC MLA and MPCC president Nameirakpam Loken Singh filed nomination for Nambol AC.
In Kangpokpi district, candidates who filed nomination papers on Saturday included Chungkhokai Doungel (independent) for Saikul (ST) AC, Soshim Gurung of JD-U for Kangpokpi AC and K Lhouvum of NPP for Saitu (ST), Meanwhile, two sitting MLA namely GS Haapu (Singhat) of BJP and TN Haokip (Saikot) of INC filed their nominations in the Churachandpur district.
In Imphai West district, five more candidates from different political parties filed their nominations on Saturday, taking the total number of candidates who have filed nominations in the district, to 14.Nine others, including Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh, deputy speaker Kongkham Robindro Singh, ex-minister Karam Shyam, JD (U) candidate for Thangmeiband AC Khumukcham Joykisan Singh among others, have already filed their nominations.
On Saturday, Indian National Congress candidate and former Manipur Assembly speaker and minister Irengbam Hemochandra Singh filed his nomination papers from 13-Singjamei Assembly Constituency.
The former speaker filed three nominations supported by one proposer each at the office of the Returning Officer, 13-Singjamei AC Pangambam Yaitongba.
RK Imo Singh, who recently joined the BJP also filed his nominations from the 11-Sagolband Assembly Constituency.
Imo filed two nominations supported by one proposer each at the office of the RO, 11-Sagolband AC Dr Md Imrafi Khan.
Thirty two-year old and first timer Sa-golshem Kebi Devi of the BJP also filed her nomination papers on Saturday from 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC.
She filed two nominations with one proposer each at the office of the RO, 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Scindia Laipubam.
Kebi is the first female candidate to file nomination in the district.
INC candidate and former DDK, Imphai assistant director Likmabam Manibabu Singh also hied his nominations from 17-Lamsang AC.
He filed three nominations with one proposer each at the office of the Returning Officer, 17-Lamsang AC Salam Padmapati.
Independent candidate Khwairakpam Robin Singh also filed his nomination paper, supported by 10 proposers from 16-Sekmai (SC) AC at the office of the RO Salam Padmapati.
With only three days left for filing of nomination papers for the first-phase of polling, no candidate has filed their nomination papers from Uripok, Patsoi and Keishamthong assembly constituencies.
