National Press Day observed in Ukhrul for the first time

Along with the rest of the country, the Ukhrul District Journalists' Association (UDJA) observed National Press Day at the conference hall of Tangkhul Leihsak Long at Gandhi Chowk on Friday.
Chingai SDO Jain Huileng was chief guest of the function which was also attended by leaders and representatives of Tangkhul frontal organisations and civil societies.
In his address, J.Huileng called upon the journalists in Ukhrul to work for betterment of society by educating the people in a more objective way.
For societal growth, he said that the role of media is indispensable and people should make proper use of this instrument.
In the discussion hour, the audiences comprising members of Tangkhul Naga Long, NPMHR, TKS, TMNL, TNWL, Indigenous Mothers Association, Hunphun Executive Council and Tangkhul Leihsak Long deliberated on the topical subject, ''Problem and Prospect of Media in Ukhrul'' .
Many valuable suggestions were mooted during the discussion and debated on the core issues like professional commitment, reportorial skills and objective reporting among others.
NPMHR (south) convenor Chingya Luithui called for a need to raise the professional standard of journalists in Ukhrul to be at par with the other counterparts and more objective in their journalistic practice.
''Media in Ukhrul is at a nascent stage.
However, it is growing and progressing in laudable manner,'' said UNC senior activist Milan Shimray.
For proper dissemination of information, the participants also spelt out the need to have better co-ordination between the public, social organisations and the media practitioners.
IMA president Tam Zimik shared the idea of establishing a press club while saying the public find it easier to identify and locate the media practitioners.
Earlier, UDJA president Sothing Shimray delivered the key note address.
Interestingly, it is the first National Press Day being celebrated in Ukhrul.
