Status report on Imphal-Mandalay bus service sought

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has demanded the State Government to submit the status report on the progress of the works being taken up for introduction of Imphal-Mandalay bus service to improve the bilateral relation between Myanmar and India.
According to a highly placed source, the Ministry had earlier directed submission of action taken report (ATR) and Status Report on the steps being taken up for the proposed Imphal-Mandalay Bus Service by the Planning Department to the Principal Secretaries of Commerce and Industries, Works/Transport, Home, Director General of Police and to the Project Director of Manipur Development Society.
The ATR and the Status Report sought by the Ministry also include report on the works being taken up by PWD along Imphal-Moreh road, International Bus Terminus being constructed by Manipur Development Authority and the works taken up by Commerce & Industries Department at the cross border points.
Moreover, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has demanded updates on the process taken up by the State Transport Department for nominating Bus Operators.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also called for report on the arrangements taken up by the Home Department for the security of the passengers taking the bus from the cross border points at Moreh and Tamu, the source added.
The source further revealed that an Inter Ministerial Group meeting was convened by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on October 31 last to discuss speeding up of the works for introduction of Imphal-Mandaly Bus Service.
Meanwhile, another source revealed that all process have been taken up to chalk out a Master Plan for construction of a New Industrial and Border Trade Township under the funding of Union Ministry of Urban Development.
On the other hand, a meeting to be chaired by the Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs (Border Management) has been convened on November 20 at Aizawl to review the progress of border fencing along the boundary of Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
The Chief Secretary of Manipur would be attending the said meeting.
