Status report sought on assault on Arunachal journalist

Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) today appealed to the state government to make public the present status of the case relating to the incident of assault on the Associate Editor Tongram Rina of the 'Arunachal Times' .
Rina was shot at by unidentified miscreants when she was entering her office on July 15 last.
The media fraternity of the state have launched a series of agitation demanding CBI inquiry into the state.
"There are contradictory reports from different quarters in this regard," APC President Taba Ajum said in a joint statement.
IGP Sanjay Baniwal, in a discussion with the editors, publishers and representatives of both press bodies on November 10, had clarified that the process of taking over the case by CBI was lengthy.
The IGP yesterday informed that the state government was yet to receive any official communiqu� in this regard and on "The confusing situation is creating a lot of misgiving and therefore APUWJ and APC are exhorting the state government to issue clarification immediately," he said.
