National Reconsolidation Day observed

United People's Front (UPF), Manipur observed the National Reconsolidation Day-2022 to commemorate the 188th Death Anniversary of Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba popularly known as Maharaja Gambhir Singh, at MDU hall here on Sunday.
In this regard, UPF president Ningthoujam Rupchandra recounted that the Seven Years' Devastation (1824-1835) was put to an end by Maharaja Gambhir Singh with around 500 Manipuri soldiers, thereby freeing the then Manipur kingdom from the clutches of Burmese marauders.
The event is regarded as the moment of formation of modern Manipur.
He then urged both the young and old not to forget the struggles for independence of Manipur, while further urging for instilling the worth of the historical events among the present and future generations.
Delivering the keynote address, UPF secretary general S Subashchandra said that in the 19th century, the world was working through colonialism and liberalisation.
One needs to thoroughly understand the impact of colonialism in the present world.
He then wished for the present generation to cultivate the patriotic spirit of Meidingu Nongdren Khomba.
The observance was attended by Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) president Azang Rongmei, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation president SK Wajid, Manipur University assistant professor Dr S Dilipkumar and others.
As part of the function, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba.
