Thadou Inpi Manipur, Assam call for Thadou Martyrs' Day observance

Thadou Inpi Manipur and Thadou Inpi Assam called upon all members of the Thadou community in Manipur and Assam to observe Thadou Martyrs' Day tomorrow.
In a press release, Thadou Inpi Manipur and Assam said the Thadou Martyrs' Day is being observed in solemn remembrance of all Thadou martyrs who laid down their lives for the security, dignity, identity and future of the Thadou people.
This year's observance is dedicated in particular to Peace Martyr Pu Nehkam Jomhao, Chairman of the Thadou Literature Society, Assam, who was abducted and murdered on August 30, 2025 at his residence in Chonghang Veng, Manja, Karbi Anglong, Assam, after participating in the Road to Peace meeting in Imphal on August 6, 2025 .
The observance follows the Thadou People's Declaration adopted on September 13, 2025 at Thadou Veng, Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam, which designated September 13 every year as Thadou Martyrs' Day.
Every Thadou household, village, church and community institution is therefore directed to observe the day in a solemn and dignified manner at their respective places.
The observance may include: Special prayers and remembrance for all Thadou martyrs in homes and churches; one minute of silence in honour of those who sacrificed their lives; lighting of candles as a symbol of remembrance, hope and peace; display of white banners, hoisting of white coloured flags, or other appropriate symbols of peace, wherever feasible and church services, prayers and sermons dedicated to the memory of the martyrs and to the Thadou commitment to peace and mutual co-existence.
The first official observance of Thadou Martyrs' Day 2026 will be held at Thadou Veng, Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam, jointly organised by Thadou Inpi Manipur and Thadou Inpi Assam on Sunday, September 13, 2026, said the release.
