"Government not acting against Kuki MLAs for fear of losing his seat"

Imphal, September 12 2026: The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has alleged that the State Government is not doing anything tangible to segregate illegal immigrants for fear of going against the interest of the 10 Kuki and Zo MLAs.

As done on the first day of every Manipuri calendar month, a public meeting was held today at Nongpok Panthoibi Shanglen, Pungdongbam, Imphal East.

The meeting deliberated on the collective demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before census with 1951 as the base year.

Speaking at the meeting, JFD finance secretary Sunil Karam said that the 10 Kuki and Zo MLAs do not want updation of the NRC or identification of illegal immigrants, and the Chief Minister does not want to act against the interest of the Kuki and Zo MLAs .

Since May 3, 2023, Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists who infiltrated into Manipur illegally have been waging a sustained armed aggression against the indigenous people of the State and they are even demanding a separate administration, he said.

Whereas the illegal immigrants have been eagerly awaiting census, it is the fundamental responsibility of every indigenous man and woman to see that all illegal immigrants are first identified before census, Sunil Karam asserted.

In case a census is conducted before illegal immigrants are identified, they (illegal immigrants) will be counted as Indian citizens and they will dominate the indigenous people sooner rather than later, he said.

He also underscored the need to keep a close watch over those Kukis who are always enthusiastic to support and facilitate illegal immigration from across the international border.

There are a large number of Kukis in Manipur who were not born or did not grow up in the State.

It was the State Government's abject failure to identify these illegal immigrants which compelled people to come out to the streets, he said.

The 10 Kuki and Zo MLAs do not want identification of illegal immigrants.

JFD Task Force executive member Ch Meghachandra categorically stated that arrest and detention of protesters demanding updation of the NRC with 1951 as base year will never succeed in suppressing the people's movement.

He warned Government leaders that the people's movement will only grow stronger as much as the crackdown on protesters intensifies.
