MI chief engineer suspended for misleading House

Chief engineer of Minor Irrigation department has been suspended for misleading the state assembly, said chief minister N Biren during Monday's sitting of the House.
CM Biren conceded that the answer he had given to the House on July 30 in reply to a question raised by Opposition member Th Lokeswar was found to be incorrect and accordingly misled the House.
On the 6th day of the second session of the Assembly on July 30, Th Lokeswar asked if Minor Irrigation department published work programmes for the year 2017-18 to 2021-22.He also demanded to know the number of works executed in respect of Khundrakpam AC if the work programmes had been published and how many have completed and how many are yet to be completed.
In his reply to the question, N Biren, who also holds MI portfolio, informed that the department published work programmes for the year and nine works were listed for Khundrakpam AC and all the projects had been completed.
After getting reply from the CM, Lokeswar said that three projects at Eshingthenbi, two at Wairi and four at Tiger Camp taken up by the department remain incomplete.
A team of government officials including engineers of MI department inspected the projects and the chief engineer was placed under suspension after finding that the projects remained incomplete.
Informing the House about the suspension, CM Biren said the government officials including SE and other engineers of MI department visited the spots on Sunday.
Based on the report submitted by the inspection team, the government took prompt action and suspended the chief engineer of MI department for misleading the House with fabricated report.
Deputy secretary (DP) Asem Rangina Chanu has issued a suspension order of MI chief engineer in-charge H Brojen.
