NYK units celebrate National Youth Day

Nehru YuvaKendra (NYK) Chandel kicked off the observance of National Youth Week (12th Jan-19th Jan) with 'National Youth Day' celebration on the birth anniversary of Youth Icon, Swami Vivekanada on Wednesday at H Kotlenphai village, Pallel.
The event was jointly organised by NYK Chandel in collaboration with H Kotlenphai Youth Club & village authority.
A release by NYK Thoubal said that the-event was attended by Kotlenphai village elder Jamkhothang Haokip as chief guest, Village Authority vice chairman M Songjathang Haokip as functional president and Michael Thangminlien Mate, who is NYK Thoubal district youth officer and officer in-charge of Chandel, as guest of honour.
Moreh Higher Secondary lecturer Limkhogin Haokip delivered the key-note address on history, philosophy and achievements of Swami Vivekananda that led to the government of India adopting his birth anniversary as National Youth Day.
A declamation contest on Patriotism and Nation Building was also organised as part of the programme while a Career Guidance Workshop was conducted by DYO Michael Mate with youth of the area.
The release also informed that NYK Thoubal celebrated the national youth day at TMK English High School, Leisangthem with school administrator Leisangthem Ibungo Singh, headmaster Thoudam Amuba Singh, and DYO Michael Mate as presidium members.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Swami Vivekananda at the start of the event followed by welcome address delivered by NYK Thoubal volunteer Md Waqus and keynote address by DACYP member of NYK Thoubal K Lokendro Singh who highlighted the significance of the various days of the National Youth Week.
The weeklong event will include celebration of January 13 as Culture Day, January 14 as Participation Day, January 15 as Social Service Day, January 16 as Physical Fitness Day, January 17 as Youth for Peace (Rally) Day, January 18 as Skill Development Day and January 19 as Awareness Day (Closing of National Youth Week) .
The life history, philosophy, achievements of Swami Vivekananda as well as role of youths in nation building, challenges of youth development, etc., were elaborated by presidium members in their speeches, said the release.
To motivate the youths of the school, a short quiz competition was also conducted and sports material presented to the students and members of youth clubs of Leishangthem, it added.
