206 new cases detected; Chandel records 64 pc TPR

The state saw yet another spike in Covid-19 cases on Wednesday as Chandel district recorded its highest ever test positivity rate (TRP) at 64.1 per cent with 50 persons found infected with the viral disease out of 78 samples tested.
However, only one native of the district was among the infected persons with the rest said to be personnel of central forces deployed in the district.
As had been the trend since outbreak of first wave of the pandemic in the state, Imphal West district had maximum number of positive cases in the last 24 hours with 80 persons out of 918 samples examined confirmed as vectors and recorded the third highest TPR at 8.7 per cent.
Imphal East, however topped the TPR chart among the valley districts with 10.3 per cent.
On the brighter side, there were no death cases while six districts out of the state's total of 16 were spared from the virus as compared to only three districts unaffected by the virus on Tuesday.
Among the hill districts, Churachan-dpur recorded second highest TPR at 8.3 per cent, according to the status update on Covid-19 issued by IDSP.
Contrary to the IDSP's figure, press release issued by Covid-19 Common Control Room informed that the positive cases were detected in only nine districts.
As per the IDSP report, a total of 2396 samples were tested in the last 24 hours out of which 206 persons were found positive and the TPR was recorded at 8.6 per cent, against 5.1 per cent recorded the previous day.
It may be mentioned that the TPR on January 10 was recorded at 4.1 per cent and 3.6 per cent on January 9 .
In the last 24 hours, nine persons were discharged from home isolation (3), RIMS (1), JNIMS (4) and CCCs (1) .
Out of the total of 206 new cases detected till 2 pm Wednesday, 140 including 79 males are from among the general population while 66 are personnel of central armed police force (CAPF).
According to the Common Control Room release, the positive cases from among the general population are residents of Imphal East (22), Imphal West (72), Thoubal (4), Bishnupur (6), Kakching (3), Ukhrul (3), Senapati (2), Chandel (1) and Churachandpur (27) .
The cases were confirmed at RIMS (1), JNIMS (40) and other testing centres (165) .
The last time the state registered 200-plus cases was on September 29, 2021 when 210 persons were infected and the TPR reached 7.52 per cent while 178 cases were detected on September 20 the same year recording positivity rate of 8.75 per cent.
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,26,550 (general population - 1,21,971 and CAPF personnel - 4,579).Number of recovered cases is 1,23,802 (general population - 1,19,368 and CAPF personnel - 4,434) and number of active cases is 736 (general population - 596 and CAPF personnel - 140).The recovery rate further dropped to 97.83 per cent against 97.98 per cent on Tuesday.
A total of 76 D-type and 5 B-type Oxygen cylinders were provided to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
On the other-hand, 5970 beneficiaries received the Covid-19 vaccines on Tuesday compared to an impressive number of 6560 people jabbed on January 10.The cumulative number of vaccinated individuals has reached 23,62,921 out of which 10,12,582 have been fully vaccinated.
A total of 1613 persons also received the precautionary dose on Tuesday.
As per the official record, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (44,428), Imphal East (28,108), Thoubal (9539), Churachandpur (10,284), Kangpokpi (2798), Tamenglong (3290), Bishnupur (9269), Senapati (2282), Ukhrul (3024), Kakching (6472), Chandel (2424), Noney (1083), Tengnoupal (1097), Jiribam (1047), Kamjong (959) and Pherzawl (464) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (675), Imphal East (482), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (163), Kangpokpi (63), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (45), Kakching (116), Chandel (41), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .
