Addressing the gathering, Ningthoujam Doren likened the election, which is a 'festival of democracy' to a festival of illicit substances.
He also accused intending candidates of the upcoming State Assembly election of using illicit substances as a weapon to gather more voters on their side.
Moirangthem Sanatombi stated that it is the duty of meira paibis to control the sale and purchase of illicit substances in a locality.
Chongtham Memton remarked that with the election drawing closer, it was the right time for such a discussion and urged people to come together in the fight against the use of illicit substances.
