National Youth Day observed across State

As observed across the country, National Youth Week was also observed in the State on Wednesday to commemorate the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda.
CHANDEL
National Youth Week observation of Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandel began on Wednesday with National Youth Day celebration at H Kotlenphai village, Pallel.
The programme was jointly organised by NYK Chandel in collaboration with H Kotlenphai Youth Club & VA.
It was attended by Jamkhothang Haokip, village elder; M Songjathang Haokip, vice chairman H Kotlenphai Village Authority; and Michael T Mate, District Youth Officer, NYK Thoubal & additional charge NYK Chandel as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Limkhogin Haokip, Lecturer Moreh Hr Secondary delivered a lecture on the history, philosophy and achievements of Swami Vivekananda which led to the Government of India adopting his birth anniversary as National Youth Day.
A Declamation Contest on Patriotism and Nation Building was also organised as part of the programme and a Career Guidance Workshop was conducted by Michael Mate with youths of the area as part of Youth Clubs Development.
CHURACHANDPUR
NYK Churachandpur in collaboration with Bunglon Youth Club also observed National Youth Day with the theme "No voters to be left behind" at Bunglon village.
On the occasion, various activities such as presentation of cultural dance, Thang-ta, solo dance, stick dance and street play were sponsored by Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India in collaboration with CEO Manipur as part of its SVEEP campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Mangminthang Gangte, DIO, Churachandpur said that Swami Vivekananda belonged to the 19th century, yet his message and his life are more relevant now than in his time.
The DIO mentioned that Vivekananda was highly critical of the 'educated' who do not care for the poor and downtrodden.
Being a proponent of scientific temper, he did not discard reason in favour of faith and believed that the truth derived from intuition had to be explained and systematized by reason.
Mangminthang Gangte further stated that the basis of Vivekananda's nationalism was deep concern for masses, freedom and equality through which one expresses self, spiritual integration on the basis of universal brotherhood.
"Although Swamiji died at an early age of 39 years, his legacy, the idea and philosophy he envisaged continue to linger", said the DIO while urging the gathered youth to follow the ideals of Vivekananda.
H Doungel, Dy Dir/OSD, NYK Churachandpur gave the keynote address.
THOUBAL
NYK Thoubal also observed National Youth Day at TMK English High school, Leishangthem.
It was attended by Leisangthem Ibungo Singh, Administrator TMK School; Thoudam Amuba Singh, Headmaster TMK School and Michael Mate as presidium members.
The programme began with floral tributes to a portrait of Swami Vivekananda and welcome address by Md Waqus, volunteer NYK Thoubal followed by keynote address by K Lokendro Singh, DACYP Member, NYK Thoubal who highlighted the significance of various days of the National Youth Week.
The presidium members also spoke on life history, philosophy, achievements of Swami Vivekananda as well as role of youths in nation building, challenges of youth development etc.
To motivate youths of the school, a short quiz competition was also conducted and sports materials were handed out to the students and members of youth clubs of Leishangthem.
