Outreach on AKAM, COVID-19 awareness held

A one day Integrated Communication & Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) and COVID-19 awareness was organised by Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati under the ministry of Information & Broadcasting at KT Rock Memorial Hall, Hungpung, Ukhrul District on Wednesday.
It was attended by St George School, Hungpung headmaster Wungreihor Ningsheng as chief guest while independent researcher and consultant Dr Achan Mungleng, Ukhrul district immunisation officer Dr Pamza Luikham and Ukhrul district surveillance officer Dr Thotreichon J attended the programme as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, FOB Senapati field publicity officer Waribam Urmila informed that the outreach programme was organised to celebrate 75 years of India's independence and also to create awareness among the masses about COVID-19.Dr Achan Mungleng spoke about how the people struggled for independence from the British.
She regretted that the general population tend to forget the native heroes who contributed to our freedom struggle and encouraged the audience to chronicle stories of our local heroes to remember them.
Speaking as the resource person, Dr Pamza Luikham dwelt on the importance of getting vaccinated against Covid-19.He mentioned that with vaccination, there noted that treatment for the vaccinated is easier even if one is infected.
In her speech, Dr Thotreichon encouraged the students present to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and also appealed to the young students to stay away from drugs.
A skit performance was also showcased as part of the event by M/S Anouba Yaipha Thourang Marup, a private registered troupe (PRT) under Regional Outreach Bureau, Imphal.
Later a quiz was also conducted and prizes distributed.
One the other hand, an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) with two-day Photo Exhibition on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on India's Freedom Struggle with special focus on Manipuri Freedom Fighters and COVID-19 was organised by the Regional Outreach Bureau Imphal in association with Imphal college at the Jubilee hall Imphal college on Thursday.
A release by programme in-charge Thokchom Anthony informed that the event was attended by College principal Dr Moirangthem Priyobrata Singh, MIB additional DG (Region) Imphal B Narayanan, Imphal College associate professor (History) Dr Yumkhaibam Shyam Singh and associate professor (Statistics) Dr Salam Noren Singh as presidium members.
Dr Yumkhaibam Shyam explained the life history and involvement of Manipuri Prince Sana Chahi Ahum alias Narendrajit Singh in the fight against British imperialism at Chittagong during the First War of India's Independence, 1857.Unsung heroes namely Pukhrambam Tanko, who was martyred in hand to hand combat with British officer Lt Brackenbary; Meinya Menjor, who was the commander and injured with three bullets in British firing during the battle of Khongjom, 1891; and martyrdom of father-son duo Yaiskul Lakpa and Sengoisana during the battle of Khomjom, 1891 amongst others were discussed.
Public health specialist of Medical Directorate Dr Vivekson also explained on COVID-19 and urged the people to get vaccinated.
An on the spot quiz con test was held and prizes and certificate distributed to the students.
Private Registered Troupe (PRT) of ROB Imphal, Kangleipak Musical Association, M/s Monalisa Arts and Cultural Association, played a drama on Nupi Lal, 1939 as part of the programme.
Imphal Artistes' Union also presented a magic show, added the release.
