State Covid-free after seven months

Imphal, December 21 2022:
Even as the Central government has issued a new health advisory for wearing masks in public places following the fresh outbreak in China with a new variant of Covid-19, the state is once again free of the contagion after a gap of seven months on Wednesday as the two remaining active cases were discharged on completion of mandatory quarantine period.
After the pandemic set foot in the state on March 24, 2020, the state, for the first time, became free from Covid-19 on May 20 last year.
The Covid-free status was maintained for four days before another fresh case was reported.
This is the second time the state is achieving Covid-free status since the pandemic began even though the state had experienced four waves of the pandemic.
In the last 24 hours, 106 samples were tested without yielding any positive results making it the seventh day in a row to have zero new cases.
So far, the virus had claimed 2149 lives including seven CAPF personnel, and infected 1,39,922 individuals including 5,022 CAPF personnel.
In the last 24 hours, 35 vaccine doses were administered and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated population to 16,48,659 people, out of which 13,37,961 had received the second dose and 2,79,095 taken precautionary doses.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (49851), Imphal East (32066), Thoubal (10300), Churachandpur (11294), Kangpokpi (3188), Tamenglong (3497), Bishnupur (9987), Senapati (2548), Ukhrul (3372), Kakching (6982), Chandel (2797), Noney (1173), Tengnoupal (1214), Jiribam (1118), Kamjong (1058), and Pherzawl (477) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (712), Imphal East (517), Thoubal (192), Churachandpur (169), Kangpokpi (70), Tamenglong (17), Bishnupur (206), Senapati (13), Ukhrul (52), Kakching (124), Chandel (43), Noney (5), Tengnoupal (17), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5), and Pherzawl (0) .
