Imphal, November 11 2021:
All Tribal Rights Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) on Thursday said that it is deeply saddened by the unwanted incident that occurred between Chingkham Kabui Village and Lilong Chingkham Maya Development Organisation (LCMDO) over a land dispute.
The Forum appealed to both parties in dispute to exercise maximum restraint and strive to settle the matter as per the law of the land and ownership record of the land in question.
At the same time, ATRPFM said that it vehemently condemned the act of violence and vandalism of houses in Chingkham Kabui village by a mob led by LCMDO by taking advantage of Kabui inhabitants being a minority in the area.
The Forum continued, "We strongly demand befitting punishment against the culprits who take laws in their own hands under encouragement and motivation of majority mentality.
The violence committed against the minority community in the area is purely based on majority suppression and oppression which is illegal, and therefore they should be booked and punished in accordance with law, failing which majority community anywhere in the state can commit such peculiarly dangerous nature of offenses in the days to come and has a huge potential to create communal conflicts".
ATRPFM then expressed its gratitude to the home department for timely intervention and keeping the situation under control, adding, "we truly believe that they will continue to protect the life and properties of the residents".
The Forum demanded LCMDO and its supporters to compensate for the loss of properties due to their violent act against the minority community.
