Imphal, November 11 2021:
It indeed is a good sign that more youth are taking interest in politics and it was due to their lack of enthusiasm in politics that youth of the state remained directionless for a long time, opined chief minister N Biren.
The chief minister also said that people of Manipur should never forget the gifts that Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented to the state like ILP and Mount Manipur.
N Biren gave his observations during a felicitation function hosted in honour of LIP MLA Karam Shyam of Langthabal AC who joined BJP.
The function was organised by BJP Imphal West district at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Puthiba Lampak on Thursday.
The felicitation function was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA Nahakpam Indrajit, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, BJP national spokesperson and Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, general secretary (organisation) Abhay Kumar Giri, BJP state vice president Th Basanta, general secretaries P Premananda and L Deven, Imphal West district president Ph Phoni, former NEIDP candidate in Langthabal AC N Nilakumar.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, N Biren noted with regret that the state remained underdeveloped for the past 70 years as the youth did not took much interest in politics and remained casting vote on emotion and as per advice of their elders.
However, youth of the state have now taken interest in politics and it is indeed a good sign, he said, adding that people of the state are witnessing changes brought in barely five years by the new government led by BJP.
He also said that essence of governance of BJP is commitment to delivering welfare schemes to beneficiaries at their doorsteps.
While claiming that BJP serves people based on its commitment and integral humanism, CM Biren asked whether there was any significant development during 70 years reign of non-BJP government.
He also said that visionless parties like INC are incompatible with BJP which works with a vision and reviews tasks for delivering best service to the people.
He then called upon women to shoulder responsibility in bringing a change in the state.
According to Biren, Karam Shyam is a man of integrity who began politieal journey together with him from DRPP by taking oath by holding axe to safeguard Manipur's integrity.
With the firm belief that no party other than BJP could save Manipur, Karam Shyam joined BJP though he was elected from LJP and became part of the government.
Biren also expressed hope that Karam Shyam joining BJP would make easier party's target of winning at least 40 seats in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and a BJP alone government after the election.
He then appealed to people of Langthabal AC to make Karam Shyam a part of the next government.
In his speech, Karam Shyam said he decided to join BJP after consulting with his supporters and workers after LJP have become defunct both at the national and state level so that he could face the upcoming election under a prominent political party.
Manipur had many chief ministers in the past but N Biren is the only one who could save Manipur, he said and promised to develop Langthabal AC as the best entrepreneur producing AC of the state in the next five years.
Earlier, Karam Shyam joined BJP and an official felicitation function was held in the presence of BJP state president Sharda and national spokesperson Sambit Patra at party's head office here.
