Imphal, November 11 2021:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the heads of all education institutes to resume physical classes with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19.A press release issued by AMSU stated that the decision to reopen schools and colleges from November 10 was taken by the Education Department after a minute discussion with student associations.
Saying that AMSU welcomed the move as Covid situation has improved considerably in Manipur, the student union continued that the guardians would surely be glad to see their children return to school.
"Despite all this, it is highly questionable to what extent the Government has taken up preventive measures to ensure safety of students as Covid cases continue to report daily, though small in the State," AMSU noted.
The student union then appealed to the State Government and the authority concerned to let the people know of the preventive measures they have taken up so as to clear whatever doubts people have in their minds.
The AMSU, on the other hand, asked if the passenger service providers would be able to give discount on fares to students considering the cost of petrol and diesel.
It then urged the Government to regulate the transportation fare in the larger interest of all.
The students union also appealed to the passenger service providers to not hike the transportation fare unbearably and continue to give discounts to students.
AMSU will carry out inspection drives to see if the educational institutes are fully discharging preparatory measures for COVID-19 regularly, it added.
