Govt to notify deferment of census soon: Sharda Devi

Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi has stated that the Central Government will issue an order notifying the deferment of the population census in Manipur very soon.
She gave the assurance during a felicitation ceremony held at Thambal Shanglen in honour of Chief Minister Y Khemchand, who returned from New Delhi today.
Addressing the function, Sharda, who is also the BJP Manipur president, said the order on the deferment would be issued without fail, as the decision was jointly taken by the Union Home Minister, other Central and State leaders, and the Chief Minister.
The resolution to defer the census was taken unanimously by the Central and the State leaders.
She also said that she has confirmed from some Central leaders that the order will be issued surely although it may take some time.
She said the Chief Minister had conveyed the aspirations of the people regarding the deferment of the census to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other Central leaders.
She said the people's faith in the BJP would increase as the State Government continues to work in accordance with their aspirations.
Saying that the BJP-led State Government has been working to facilitate peaceful coexistence, Sharda said that promoting peace and working in accordance with the aspirations of the people are the primary responsibilities of the Government.
The MP further said that the committee of BJP MLAs has been urging the Central leadership to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Manipur on issues related to the NRC and census.
She also said that the Chief Minister had been making frequent visits to Delhi to pursue the demand for updating the NRC, as desired by the people.
Sharda added that the Government of India decided to defer the census due to the persistent efforts of the Chief Minister, BJP MLAs and various civil society organisations.
She also said that the BJP-led Government in Manipur has been implementing various developmental and welfare schemes in the State.
The BJP's contribution to the welfare of the people of Manipur is unprecedented, she claimed.
Sharda further said that the political party that had been in power in the State for a long time is envious of the BJP and therefore is blaming the BJP-led Government.
She went on to state that Chief Minister Y Khemchand had even travelled by road to Jiribam in pursuit of peace.
Khemchand had also visited Senapati, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and other areas as part of his efforts to build confidence among the people and restore peace, she said.
The Government had also resumed the Imphal-Guwahati bus service on August 21, she further said.
Although complete peace is yet to be restored in Manipur, the development under the leadership of the Chief Minister is promising, Sharda said.
People are now starting to heave a sigh of relief, the MP said, adding that the initiatives being taken up by the Government to restore normalcy should be acknowledged by the people and political parties.
