Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan thanks Centre for deferring Census; pushes for NRC

Imphal, September 01 2026: The Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan (Nation First) has said that the peaceful and democratic movement under the banner of "No NRC, No Census" in Manipur is aimed at safeguarding the indigenous populations of the region.

In a statement, Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan (Nation First) national vice president M Indrajit Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh and his Council of Ministers for judiciously deferring the Census exercise.

Recalling the organisation's initiatives, the statement said that on February 24, 2026, the Sangathan, under founder and national president Sohan Giri, had organised a joint press conference at its Head Office at 114-Satya Niketan, New Delhi along with 21 Hindu organisations and submitted a memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister and MHA raising the appeal of "No NRC, No Census" and "Save the Indigenous Peoples of Manipur" .

Recently, 14 CSOs from Manipur led by Santa Nahakpam also held a joint press conference at the same venue in collaboration with various Hindu organisations and submitted another memorandum to the President, Prime Minister and MHA reiterating the demands for protection of indigenous communities, it added.

Indrajit Singh also lauded the people of Manipur and CSOs for their peaceful mobilisation and democratic participation.

Stating that the deferment should not mark the end of the movement, he called for continued unity and democratic determination to ensure proper and timely implementation of NRC within a defined timeframe to secure the future, identity and rights of Manipur's indigenous people.
