New LPG connection documents distributed

Imphal, November 11 2021:
Union Minister of State Ministry for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli distributed gas connections (documents) under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) 2.0 to 20 beneficiaries in the presence of Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh, today.
The distribution ceremony was held at Thoubal Mela ground this afternoon.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Rameswar Teli said that around 8 crore gas connections have been provided in the phase-I of the scheme and added that phase II was launched in August, 2021 in Uttar Pradesh.
Saying that the scheme was launched to address the plight of poor families and to improve their conditions, the MoS continued that altogether 172 retail outlets (fuel) and 101 LPG distribution centres have also been opened in the State.
He also assured all possible assistance from the Ministry in developing the State.

Regarding the selection of venue of today's programme, the MoS said that Phase II focuses on districts where gas connection is below 90 percent of the intended beneficiaries.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Biswajit said that the scheme is one of the most important flagship programmes of the Government as it aims at women empowerment.
He continued that the scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 at Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.
Biswajit continued that altogether 1,59,555 (approx) beneficiaries were given gas connections in the State in the first phase.
The phase-II has so far covered 5,452 beneficiaries, he added.
Th Biswajit Singh also highlighted several social security schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
He also said that Mary Kom's nomination to the Rajya Sabha is recognition of women's contribution 'to our society'.
The distribution ceremony was also attended by Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen Singh, Deputy Commissioner A Subhash, CAF&PD Director Robertson Asem, officials of IOCL, BPCL and HPL, among others.
