Kakching, July 29 2021:
Kakching District Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Union has submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner requesting to allow daily wage earners to work under a protocol during the curfew period as they are facing huge issues in running their homes.
In the memorandum, Union assistant secretary N Sobhachandra Meitei stated that labourers have been facing dire situation as most of them do not own any land and maintain their family from their daily income.
With the imposition of curfew, they have no source of income and many are finding it hard to fund education of their children with some of them on the verge of starvation.
Hence, considering their plight, labourers who are daily wage earners must be allowed to work under certain rules as being permitted in case of farming activities or the government must make a special arrangement for the welfare of these poor labourers, the memorandum stressed.
