Imphal, August 10 2015:
Four major underground groups of Northeast have jointly called for a "total shutdown" of the region to counter the Independence Day celebration of India from midnight till 6 pm on August 15, 2015 .
During these hours, essential services, emergency measures, media and religious activities will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown, said a 'solidarity statement' of United National Liberation Front of WESEA (UNLFW), Coordinating Committee (CorCom), Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Monday.
The statement released by CorCom publicity committee convenor appealed to all the people in the Northeast region to avoid the celebration and any supportive activity in connection with it and further urged for displaying "our solidarity" against India, the "common enemy", by making the total shutdown a complete success.
India's yearly Independence Day celebration by unfurling her tri-colour in the WESEA Region is nothing but reaffirmation of the Indian "Colonial Occupation" over the region and its people, the statement said, adding the Indian establishment is obstinate to keep its occupational symbol flying high for the world to see defying the democratic norms of the civilized countries of the world.
It said, "The revolutionary organizations of the region are determined to resist the Indian hegemonic occupation of our region, by all means necessary.
We understand the hidden agenda of the so-called "Peace Talk" offered by the colonial regime within the Indian Constitution, which is akin to a "Sugar Coated Bullet".
It is just one of the many dirty tactics of India to perpetuate colonization and acceptance of "Peace Talk" would itself be surrendering of our freedom to the Indian Colonial Rule" .
The only way to be free from the bondage of Indian occupation is to defeat the IOF and drive them out of the soil forever, it said.
"Therefore, we are determined to fight until we are able to break free of the colonial shackle" .
The statement added that as a part of the outfits' programme, the total shutdown has been called to oppose the Independence Day celebration.
