BJP-Majority govt to be formed in Manipur: Bhupender

Imphal, January 09 2022: Tipaimukh AC Congress MLA Chaltonlien Amo has joined BJP on Sunday.

He was warmly welcomed into the party by CM N Biren in a function held at the Thambal Shanglen of BJP Manipur Pradesh, which was attended by Manipur BJP election in-charge and union minister Bhupender Yadav, co-in-charge Pratima Bhoumik and party's state president A Sharda.

In his speech, CM Biren said that PM Narendra Modi along with the union ministers and party leaders like JP Nadda are giving guidance and advice every minute or so to prevent any mistake and address all problems the state may encounter.

Although the present coalition government was not all that cordial, it is due to the credit of the central party leaders that the BJP government is due to successfully complete its term of 5-year.As such, there is the need for formation of a BJP exclusive government in the state, he asserted.

The CM also said that since the Code of Conduct is in place, efforts must be made to spread the party's influence in every nook and cranny of the state.

He then appreciated Chaltonlien Amo's work during his time in Congress and wished the MLA to be able to realise his vision once the BJP government returns to power.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhupender Yadav predicted that BJP will win two-thirds of the votes, making it a majority party and ensuring the return of the BJP government.

He then expressed elation over the joining of new members as it will help in strengthening the party, while adding that priority will be given to women candidates and those from various sections of the society.

He also urged for maintaining peace during the polls.

It may be mentioned here that of the original 28 Congress MLAs, only 13 MLAs are left with the party.

They are AK Miraibai, O Ibobi, O Surajkumar, Gaikhangam, DD Thaisii, Alfred Arthur, K Ranjit, N Loken, Th Lokeshwor, Khumukcham Joykisan, K Meghachandra, Fuzur Rahman and TN Haokip.

The other 15 MLAs have either joined other parties or disqualified.

Yadav and Bhowmik both are Central leaders of the BJP, overseeing the assembly election affairs in Manipur on behalf of the party.

Sharda Devi said the joining of Amo is an example of conviction in the proactive policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and N Biren Singh led governments to develop Manipur and the entire northeastern region.

"I welcome Chaltonlien Amo to the BJP family.

The BJP is going from strength to strength in Manipur due to people's belief in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the great work being done by Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the state," Yadav tweeted.

Earlier also, several Congress leaders including state Congress president Govindas Konthoujam and few MLAs quit the party and joined the BJP.

After 15 years, the Congress was ousted by the BJP-led alliance in the 2017 Assembly polls, despite emerging as the single-largest party with 28 seats.

But the saffron party, which had bagged 21 seats, stitched together a coalition government with the support of four National People's Party (NPP) MLAs, four Naga People's Front (NPF) members, the lone Trinamool Congress MLA and an Independent member.

The assembly elections would be held in Manipur in two phases on February 27 and March 3.The counting of votes will take place on March 10 .
