Ukhrul, May 27 2015 :
If things would go smoothly, one might well be looking forward to an early end to a long-running feud that had thrown the Tangkhul Baptist Church (TBC) into disarray with two factions -- Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (TBCA) and Tangkhul Naga Baptist Churches Association (TNBCA) -- over certain discrepancies in internal matters years ago.
Towards this end, an initiative in the form of Peace Committee for Unification of Tangkhul Baptist Churches (PCUTBC) was started in September in the year 2011 by a group of Tangkhul intellectuals having 40 members, said the secretary Ayo Kasar in an exclusive chat with Hueiyen Lanpao Correspondent on Wednesday.
"It has been a dark period in the history of Tangkhul Baptist Church with its two factions without seeing eye to eye with each other for more than a decade ," he lamented before adding that this conflict situation has much disconcerted the members, especially womenfolks and youngsters for far too long.
Maintaining that time has come for resolving the differences, Ayo said that even the four zonal Tangkhul Baptist constituent unit of Ukhrul district have readily extended the seal on the unification initiative.
"With the ground work already done, it is only a matter of time now before we see the whole Tangkhul Baptist family coming together by the grace of God," he exuded confidence.
He further said that Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) approves only one affiliation for each tribe in the State, adding that the convention has a total of 29 Baptist associations under it.
