ADC polls Cong candidate abducted, freed

In a blow to the Congress party in the run up to the ADC poll, suspected cadres of GPRN/NSCN-IM abducted a Congress candidate of Ukhrul district while a Congress worker has been reportedly put under house arrest in Tamenglong district.
According to a source, Congress candidate for 5-Huining DCC of Ukhrul ADC, Ngachonmi Chamroy was abducted by suspected NSCN-IM cadres while he was travelling in a Ford Figo car along with five workers for campaigning today around 11 am.
Chamroy was reportedly abducted from a place between Halang and Phungcham villages under Chingai AC.
The NSCN-IM cadres involved in the abduction of Ngachonmi were reportedly taking shelter nearby, the source said.
The cadres also snatched one licensed double barrel shotgun and a mobile phone which were kept inside the car after seizing the vehicle's key.
Five of the workers were freed while Ngachonmi was detained.
However, Chamroy was freed in the evening.
Ukhrul district police retrieved the car later.
At the same time, a worker of Congress candidate for 6-Tousem DCC of Tamenglong district has been put under house arrest by suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM.
Namkut Pame, worker of Congress candidate for Tousem DCC, MP Gwang� who is also the sitting VC of Tamenglong ADC� was reportedly hauled up by NSCN-IM cadres yesterday.
Speaking to The Sangai Express in Imphal today, MP Gwang said that the incident took place yesterday evening while Namkut along with some other workers were heading towards Teguaram village for campaigning in a Maruti Gypsy King vehicle.
The armed cadres stopped the vehicles and seized all the mobile phones after snatching the vehicle's key.
The other workers were freed with a stern warning, Gwang said.
Namkut is a close relative of MLA Kikhonbou Newmai, he said.
Namkut Pame has been detained inside a house at Teguaram village in order to stop him from participating in the ensuing ADC election, Gwang said.
