Imphal, July 29 2021:
Reckitt, a global leader in consumer healthcare, observed World Hepatitis Day in 6 north-eastern states namely Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram.
As part of the observance, Reckitt and Plan India in support of 'The Birds and Bees Talk' (TBBT) programme, conducted a webinar via Durex on Hepatitis awareness for local communities, students and teachers on Thursday.
Imphal East DC Diana Khumanthem; educationist and social activist Koing Samom Umbon (DDSE, Namsai); National Health Mission district reproductive child health officer Dr Tope Yomcha and Consultant Physician & Diabetologist Dr Banikanta (Influencer) attended the webinar as guest speakers.
The webinar was organised with the aim of spreading awareness among the masses on Hepatitis B and C, risk factors, early signs, preventable measures and other related information.
Speaking during the webinar, Dr Tope Yomcha expressed that the younger generations need to be made aware of the effects of hepatitis including its adverse effects to the body, especially considering 70 percent of the Indian population is in the younger age group.
Failure to provide early diagnosis and treatment to Hepatitis B and C patients affects the liver which could then evolve into cancer.
Thus, the younger generations should be made aware of the above diseases so as to completely eliminate any possibility of its occurrence in the future.
