Imphal, December 13 2021:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has demanded the state government to take up legal actions under Section 20 of the ILPS Regulations against those who violate the terms and conditions of the ILP pass.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises on Monday, JCILPS convener BK Moirang-cha said that it has been taking up initiatives to identify non-locals.
A joint meeting on ILPS was held at the conference hall of SP Imphal West on December 6, which was attended by DIG Themthing, SP Imphal West, SP Imphal East and DC staff.
JCILPS representatives also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the committee representatives were told that the police will conduct drive to check ILP pass and the police officers urged JCILPS to cooperate in the drive.
In response, JCILPS informed the government officials that the committee will cooperate only when the government assures of taking up legal actions against violators of the ILPS guidelines under Section 20 of the regulations.
However, police refused to take up legal actions against the violators, which is unfortunate, he said.
Stating that they will observe for some time if the government enforces Section 20 of the ILPS guidelines, he said that the committee will take up stringent measures to ensure effective enforcement of the provisions.
He also demanded the government to amend the ILPS guidelines and define indigenous and native people of the state with 1951 as the base year.
BK Moirangcha further informed that the committee will organise sit-in protest cum awareness programme in different parts of the state for seven days starting from Keishampat Leimajam Leikai on Tuesday for effective implementation of ILPS.
